The being from elsewhere (L‘être venu d‘ailleurs)
D, CI: Renaud De Putter & Guy Bordin, ED: Melodie Wegnez
B 2013, OwE, 18‘
Like in an old black and white silent movie we look from the street at a woman in a shop window. She’s re-doing her makeup and her hair and gives a friendly wave. Her name is Madame Dédée, as a prostitute she calls herself Murielle. In the soft daylight from the window the ageing Dédée has a radiance like a girl in a Vermeer painting. In the room where she works we get to know her, we laugh and we marvel. With disarming honesty, humour and frankness she talks about her 30-year career as a “whore in the soul”, a job she loves. Being an expert at playing the necessary roles, she can often avoid getting undressed.
Renaud De Putter was born in Brussels in 1967. Since 2000, he has devoted himself to films that tackle subjects such as identity and memory. Guy Bordin is an ethnologist and film director. He was born in 1959 in Mayenne, France and lives in Brussels. He studied oceanography at the University of Brest and has a degree in Inuit language and culture. |
