How can radioactivity be depicted in moving images, or the dimensions of the Fukushima catastrophe of 2011? Sebastian Mez works with material he recorded in Japan immediately after the reactor accident. As in a mosaic, sometimes in several layers of overlapping images and sound recordings, he compresses his apparently random observations to create a powerfully symbolic film. The atomic threat has become reality.

Sebastian Mez was born in 1982 in Essen, Germany. In October 2007, he began to study at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg, specialising in directing. His first short “Clean Up” was shown at more than 40 international film festivals. His film “Ein Brief aus Deutschland” won the international middle length competition at Visions du Réel in Nyon in 2011. His first feature “Metamorphosen” premiered at the Berlinale 2013. He lives and works in Berlin.
