With his belongings stuffed into a cotton bag René smokes a final cigarette before the warder knocks on the door. He’s being taken by prison transport vehicle to another town for a court hearing. „Raumfahrer“ (Space Travelers) shows the absurd procedure involved in transporting prisoners: constant stop and go between locked doors, endless waiting. When the bus is in motion, the outside world is visible in passing through the observation slit. This world to which they no longer belong to appears close enough to grasp, and is yet so very distant. For the duration of the journey „Raumfahrer“ observes the quiet, invisible and ever-present violence with which imprisonment robs the inmates not just their freedom but also their autonomy, and sometimes also their human existence.

Georg Nonnenmacher was born in 1963 in Cologne. He’s been in the film business since 1988, working on numerous films as gaffer. In 2012 he founded the production company HiHead-Film.
