Prisoners of Kanun (Prisioneros del Kanun)
D, CI: Roser Corella, ED: Pascale Fakhry
ESP 2013, OwE, 30‘
The mountains of northern Albania are shrouded in fog, massive and grand. We hear the words of the ancient code of Kanun. The man can see the mountains only from his window. For a year and a half he’s been sitting on the sofa with his wife. Just like Ahmet, who hasn’t attended school for more than ten years. As if paralysed he sits with his mother at home, watching TV, sad and hopeless. The law of Kanun has governed daily life in the rural north of Albania for centuries. The tradition of the blood vendetta allows the family of the victim to take vengeance on the family of convicted murderers.
