Michael S., re-collected (Michael S., versammelt)

D, ED: Steven Swirko, CI: Matthias Pötsch
AUT 2013, OwE, 2‘35

Michael agrees with his friend: “Cinema is quality of life”. Ever since his first visit to a movie theatre he’s been an avid collector of films of all kinds. Meanwhile, two attics and a rented storeroom are still not big enough for his collection of more than 12,000 DVDs and thousands of 8mm film copies. To get on top of the situation he opens his shop “Filmdose” in Berlin Neukölln. But his enthusiasm and commitment have their price. His marriage breaks up. “This collecting thing is a purely male domain. Most of us are single.” A loving but tragic look at a cinema enthusiast’s hotchpotch life.

Steven Swirko was born in Germany as the son of an American soldier. In 2009 Swirko attended the University of Music and Performing Arts/ Film Academy of Vienna to study film, production and scriptwriting. He produced several award winning short films such as “Chronos” (2011)     and “Ketchup Kid” (2013). In 2012 he was production manager on the multiple award-winning feature film “Your Beauty is worth nothing”.
