Feast (Festin)

The “vanitas” still-life paintings by 17th century Flemish artists are works full of symbolism. They confront the viewer with the vicissitude of life and his own inevitable death. In his film “Feast” Wojtek Doroszuk, has created with his carefully arranged composition a vanitas painting in film form. The camera glides seductively over a perfectly lit and decadently decorated banqueting table, laden with exotic fruits, venison, poultry, mussels, crabs, gateaux on cakestands of exquisite porcelain. Soon the first unexpected guests arrive. The feast begins!

Wojtek Doroszuk is a video artist based in Krakow, Poland and Rouen, France. He graduated from the Faculty of Painting of the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts in 2006. His works have been shown in many places, including Warsaw, New York, Oslo and Paris. In 2009 he was awarded the Deutsche Bank Art Prize Public Award; in 2013 he gained an Honorable Mention at the 15th Media Art Biennale in Wroclaw, Poland.
