Cafe Voyage
D, ED, CI: Roman Bondarchuk
UKR 2013, OwE, 12‘, INT PR
Wowa the watchman lives alone in a deserted roadside café that bears the romantic name ‘Voyage’. Nomen est omen: at the sight of the crumbling building most people make a hasty departure. But not Wowa. He lives a humble life, isn’t interested in politics or socializing. In the eighties he was the director of a collective state-owned enterprise. Then came the change of government. It’s hard to believe that this wiry loner, who likes to fool around on the vast site dressed only in bathing trunks, once ran an entire company. It’s not just Wowa who is different. His homeland, Ukraine, has also changed dramatically.
